It is every mother’s wish to take a break and spend a moment of solitude but whenever we think of being away from our kids, anxiety, and sadness overwhelm us. While we cannot escape certain situations that required us to travel like a business conference on a different country or attend to an urgent trip away from home, we can still ace our parenting tasks with these effective strategies:
Commit to a Video Call Date. When I was asked to represent our company for a seminar abroad, I left my toddler in the care of my mother-in-law with a heavy heart. It was the first time that I was far from him but thanks to the innovation of technology, I can still pursue my personal (and digital) commitment to my son via video call.
Send Sweet Notes. Before I left the house for an out of town trip with my colleagues, I made sure my kids would feel my presence. As such, I asked my partner to post the sticky notes on their lunch box before they go to school. I wasn’t surprised with the endless thank you’s that I got from them every time we talked on the phone.
Check Their Homework. I promised myself to also keep up with my children’s school performance even if I’m away. Every time we talk, I ask their recent activities in school and discuss with them their homework. From reminding them to do their research to making sure they have answered everything, that’s how normal I am as a mom. Just like most moms.
