Now that my three children are not so little anymore, I realized there are incredible and important things that I wished I’d recall. When I browsed their baby photos and videos, all I could see is adorable cuteness and these facts:
How small they were at birth
When I first held my newborn, I was terrified that he might slip from my very careful hands as he was so tiny and fragile. I thought I made the right decision of investing on a lot of infant clothes only to realize that after two weeks, we had to buy a new set of clothes for a 3-month-old baby even he was barely a month old that time.
They barely blink
I used to think that newborns are weird. Aside from the regular pee, poop and feed cycle, my mother-in-law reminded me that they barely blink. Think of a blink or two in a minute. Future mommies, are you ready for a staring contest with your babies?
Babies needed to be burped
I thought burping babies was boring not until his pediatrician advised me of the importance of burping them after each feeding. Aside from relieving discomfort, burping spares parents from the noise brought by a yelling child.
The “Purple Crying Period”
I’m grateful that my elder sister taught me a lot of things about newborns before I had one. Every time I wanted to cry because I feel helpless on not being able to stop my baby from incessant crying, she’d remind me that the “purple crying period” or sustained crying is normal for a 2-week old to a 4-month old baby.
