This fall, mental health classes will begin in New York, from preschool to high school. Per the New York State Mental Health Advisory Council, kids as young as 3 years old will participate in the mandated mental health education.
Such bold move of the state is highly commendable as mental illnesses are increasingly rampant and don’t spare anyone regardless of age and gender. Integrating mental health classes in their health curriculum for students is a great way of introducing these young minds on the signs and risks of mental disorders and how to get the necessary support to live a healthy life.
Lucky is the present generation for such early exposure on mental health education. As such, they will be able to identify their weaknesses and ways to reach out for help. More so, such program will strengthen them mentally, emotionally and physically.
It is not a secret that a lot of adults went through a troubled childhood- verbal, physical and sexual forms of abuse that they experienced that have a destructive impact on their lives.
The state of New York, its legislators, education and health sectors just did the right thing and I must say I envy the students who are privileged to be taught with this significant topic. A topic often neglected but had cost lives and dangers.
I hate to admit it but we live in a dangerous world. As a mother, my greatest dream is a healthy, safe and productive lives for my kids. I hope the United States of America and other countries will apply this important subject in their schools. For a brighter future of the youth.
