A mother’s presence can do a lot of wonders in a child’s life. From their encouraging words to tender, loving care, moms are crucial in the growth and development of their children. But did you know that a mother’s voice is way more effective in waking up their children than an alarm clock?
According to a recent study in the The Journal of Pediatrics, children woke up faster to the sound of their mama’s voice than a tone alarm. The results revealed that a smoke alarm with a recording of a kid’s mother’s voice prompting the kid to “Wake up! Get out of bed! Leave the room!” was efficient in waking up the child in 2 seconds while the tone alarm took almost 3 minutes to get a response from a sleeping child.
“Maternal voice alarms woke 86 to 91% of children, prompting 84 to 86% to successfully perform the escape procedure within five minutes of the alarm’s onset. That’s compared to 52% of kids waking to the standard alarm and 51% escaping,” said the author of the study.
Indeed, the biological connection between mothers and their children prove to be stronger. In emergent situations like fire, a mother’s voice is powerful that she can save her kid’s life from danger.
That said, the study is crucial for the safety of families as voice-activated alarms can alert family members to a life-threatening situation.
