When American Presidents get married, many expect their wedding to be fancy and costly. Similarly, First Ladies’ gowns are expected to be head-turning items that cost an arm and a leg. But not all American Presidential weddings are lavish. Some are so low-key you’d probably be shocked at how much money they spent at their wedding, and ashamed at how much you spent at yours. Read on and find out how these U.S. presidents and their First Ladies said their “I do’s”.
The lucky wedding dress of Rosalynn Carter
Rosalynn Carter was a mere teen when she married United States President Jimmy Carter. She was 18 years old while Carter was 21 when they got hitched on July 1946 in Plains, Georgia. Initially, Rosalynn rejected Jimmy’s proposal but she later changed her mind when Carter graduated from the United States Naval Academy. Carter wore his Navy uniform while Rosalynn wore a knee-length wedding dress with a hat, corsage, and gloves. The couple has since lived happily ever after and went on to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016.
