If you are about to join the new mommas club for the first time, you might assume that once the baby is born your full attention should be on your little one, but you’re wrong. Here are the reasons why taking care of yourself is equally important as looking after your baby:
You are beautiful.
Yes, you gained weight, stretch marks and dark circles under your eyes courtesy of pregnancy and sleepless nights with your new bundle of joy but these lovely changes don’t make you less of a person. You are beautiful inside and out. Welcoming a new life isn’t an easy feat so reward yourself by getting beautified. Go to your favorite salon and have that much-needed haircut.
You deserve “me” time.
The moment you hear your baby cries, you stop washing the dishes and run as fast as you can to check him and make sure everything’s alright. The tasks of being a new mom, can, in fact, be overwhelming. As such, set an alone time for yourself. Treat yourself to a nearby coffee shop and indulge yourself on sumptuous treats of caramel macchiato and a slice of chocolate cake. Pair these yummies with a good read of a fiction book that had been waiting for your time. A few hours of solitude won’t hurt, it’s food for your soul.
Your health matters a lot.
Your health is the best gift that you can give to your child. Take it from the old proverb that says “Sleep when your baby sleeps.” Nothing beats taking naps while your baby sleeps soundly. That way, you’ll have a boost of energy when it’s time to play with him/her. If you’re fit and rested, you can be the best version of yourself when taking care of your child. Remember that your little one needs you more than anyone else.
Your sanity is crucial.
The demands of taking care a newborn can be exhausting. It is ok to steal some small breaks to maintain your sanity. Note that the disposition of your baby depends on you. When you’re cheerful, expect your little nugget to be happy too. Also, don’t be afraid to get help from friends or family members. Accept help from your best friend when she offers to watch over your baby during your shower time. You have to take care of yourself so that you can nourish your child the best ways possible.
You need to be realistic.
The moment you enter motherhood, you have to brave big changes. This means you have to make necessary adjustments as your utmost priority now is your baby. However, you need not forget yourself. As much as you want to be the perfect mom, you cannot and will never be, but you can be the best mom that you can. Your baby loves you just as you love him/her.
