Families who love to travel during the holiday season find it extra challenging when kids are in tow. Aside from the big crowd in the airport, flight delays and toddler tantrums are nerve-wracking.
Don’t be a victim of circumstances and allow stressful situations to ruin a wonderful holiday that awaits you and your loved ones.
Pack ‘everything’ that you need
Prior to packing your luggage, write down (all) the necessary items that you need to bring for the whole family. Medicines, diapers, and extra clothes are some of the many items that you need to secure. Don’t forget to keep a directory of your physicians like pediatrician and allergologist in case of emergency.
Consider your children’s schedules
Whether it’s a long road trip or a travel via plane, make sure that you consider the sleep time of your kids. It is best to have a travel time when the kids are asleep to avoid meltdowns and chaos in between trips. Isn’t it a win-win situation for moms and kids?
Bring toys and snacks
Reality check- kids have short attention span so might as well bring their favorite toys and healthy snacks (lots of them). Avoid snacks that are high in sugar that will make them hyperactive and don’t give anything that can cause them to choke.
Don’t worry on meltdowns
Meltdowns among kids are inevitable hence we must orient them and prepare ourselves on the possibility of stressful situations while traveling over the holidays. Have a one-to-one discussion with your child about your trip and the importance of staying behave and calm.
Manage your own stress
It is important that parents manage their own stress because if you can’t, your anxiety will fuel the chaos brought by holiday stress and your kids. When faced with a tough situation while traveling with family, take a deep breath and keep yourself calm. Remember, you are out for fun and not to dwell on negative forces.
